Ancestral Lines

These are the Irish/Celtic Clanna or Clans from which I am descended.  I have organized their lineages as clearly as possible in this list.

Entries with intriguing titles like “A man is murdered – Three men are hanged” indicate a story worth reading.

Entries that only contain names, such as “Collins Johanna 1851 & Connell David 1854,” suggest that there is information on births, deaths, events, illnesses, or causes of death, but I haven’t yet gathered enough details to tell their full story, or maybe there is enough information there but I have not gotten around to writing it.

I have over 150 family stories either written or started but waiting to find missing pieces but before publishing all of them, I need to review them for errors, correct links etc so if you are interested please note the website name and check back here regularly.  I hope you enjoy my efforts.

Finding a story/person in my family tree:

If you think you may be related to me or someone in my family tree, please note that when using my Ancestral Lists and tracing your lineage from the present to the past, in order to simplify the lineages, I have followed this approach:

  • Once a female ancestor married and took her husband’s name, her story continues under his family. Her children and their descendants are then recorded with his family name. This process repeats whenever a female descendant marries, with her lineage moving to her husband’s family line.

For example, Margaret Shanahan (1805) married John Meehan (1805-1864). Her story is in both the Shanahan ancestral line and the Meehan ancestral line, but all her children are in the Meehan line.  Her daughter Frances Meehan (1829-1870) married John Collopy (1817-1877), and her children are in the Collopy line…. and so on.
