This is not finished.

Ellen O’Connell was born in Lauragh, Milford, County Cork in 1848 to parents Michael O’Connell and Margaret McAuliffe.

She married William Fitzpatrick (the boy next door) on January 3, 1883 in Milford.  Their witnesses were Con Sheehan and Mary Sullivan.  NOTE:   Con Sheehan was the baptism sponsor for Johanna O’Connell on Sept 8, 1849 whom I am trying to find evidence for her parentage https://www.sheacollins.com/michael-oconnell-1808-1877-margaret-mcauliffe/

Ellen and William had four children:

Hannah Fitzpatrick 1883 – 1960

Michael Fitzpatrick 1885 – 1946

Margaret Fitzpatrick 1888 – 1959

Denis Fitzpatrick 1891 – 1969

Ellen’s Grave – at Ballinakill

IN MEMORY OF WILLIAM FITZPATRICK, LAURAGH WHO DIED 5TH OCTOBER 1921 AGED 73 YEARS
HIS WIFE ELLEN DIED NOV 1923
WILLIAM FITZPATRICK DIED 12 APRIL 1945 (William & Ellen’s grandson)
HIS MOTHER MARY DIED 15 DEC 1969 (William & Ellen’s daughter-in-law)
HIS FATHER DENIS DIED 28 JAN 1969 (William & Ellen’s son)

Ellen had the following tombstone erected for her father and two brothers – so her mother must still have been alive at that time.

LI-CLCR-0015 Cloncrew graveyard ERECTED BY ELLEN O CONNELL TO THE MEMORY OF HER FATHER MICHAEL O CONNELL
LARAUGH DIED OCT. 3RD 1877 (age 69) AND HIS TWO SONS
JOHN DIED DEC. 8TH. 1872 (Estimated Birth Year abt 1836 Date of Registration 1872 Death Age 36)
WILLIAM DIED AG.ST 13TH 1873 (Estimated Birth Year abt 1848 Date of Registration 1873 Death Age 25)

The following is a bit of a mystery:

http://historicgraves.com/cloncrew/li-clcr-0014/grave ERECTED BY JOHN HENNESY OF LARAUGH 1892 BORN 1811
IN MEMORY OF HIS GRAND FATHER JOHN O CONNELL OF LARAUGH DIED 1812
HIS GRAND MOTHER ELLEN O’CONNELL DIED 1837
AND HER SON PATRICK 1825

  • The wording of the tombstone is a bit odd “ERECTED BY JOHN HENNESY OF LARAUGH 1892 BORN 1811” does this suggest that John Hennesy left money and instructions for this to be erected after he died?  Otherwise why would it have his own date of birth as well as the year 1892, which would mean he died in 1892 aged 81?  Or was he living abroad?
  • why does it say “HER SON PATRICK” and not “their son Patrick”?
